As online shopping changes the way traditional brick-and-mortar retailers operate, service-oriented businesses are filling more vacancies in local centers. A franchise that specializes in eyelash extensions is seizing those opportunities in the region. Arizona-based Amazing Lash Studio has two new locations in the works. Sites in Folsom's Palladio at Broadstone and Elk Grove's Laguna Gateway shopping center are scheduled to open this summer. The franchise is also considering a location in Fountains at Roseville, according to a local spokeswoman.

The new stores will join a Loehmann's Plaza site that's expected to open on April 15. The opening will be Amazing Lash Studio's local debut. Eyelash extensions, commonly associated with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, are different than the false eyelashes found at drugstores. Extensions are individual synthetic strands that can have a lengthening and thickening effect on lashes.

While drugstore lashes can cost less than $5 and be applied in minutes, the process of applying extensions is more involved — and costly. Applying a full set of eyelash extensions can take up to two hours. Amazing Lash Studio offers an introductory price of $79.99 for a full set of lashes. The company recommends getting refills every two to four weeks.

Amazing Lash Studio has nearly 100 locations across 17 states. Its locations generally cover between 1,500 and 2,500 square feet. The franchise targets upscale boutique locations and higher-end retail centers.

Brad and Eva Jenkins are the franchisees for the Palladio location. Melissa Baker, Angelique Walsh and Farrah Wood are the franchisees for the Elk Grove site.
